JAKARTA, MUI.OR.ID<\/strong> \u2013 The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has issued a fatwa calling for jihad against Israel. This fatwa has received full support from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chairman of MUI\u2019s Division of Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Prof. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, stated that this fatwa is in line with the decisions made during the Ijtima’<\/em> (Scholarly Gathering) of MUI\u2019s Fatwa Commission, which also affirmed that it is obligatory for Muslims to defend Palestine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn fact, the Ijtima\u2019<\/em> of MUI also recommended the deployment of troops to protect the people of Gaza and the Palestinian population in general from the genocide and destruction carried out by Israel,\u201d said Prof. Sudarnoto in a statement received by MUIDigital on Tuesday (April 8, 2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In various other statements, he noted, MUI has also encouraged member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to consolidate internally and take measured steps to stop the atrocities continuously committed by Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, he emphasized, the fatwa issued by IUMS for jihad against Israel must be widely supported. According to him, the detailed points in the jihad fatwa against Israel clearly illustrate that a more comprehensive and coordinated international approach is urgently needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEspecially by the Islamic world to fight against and subdue Israel, while also realizing Palestinian independence. We must not allow the mass killings and destruction carried out by the greatest terrorist of this century\u2014namely Israel, supported by the United States\u2014to continue,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Sudarnoto believes that an effective international force is needed to resist and subdue this aggressor and the evil alliance supporting it. He emphasized that allowing Israel\u2019s grave crimes against the people of Gaza and Palestine to continue stands in direct contradiction to religious teachings and the divine command to uphold what is right and forbid what is wrong (amar ma\u2019ruf nahi munkar<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further expressed that the systemic evil currently perpetrated by Israel, with backing from the United States, is resulting in massive casualties and destruction in Gaza and even threatens global peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, Prof. Sudarnoto said, the Muslim community and the Islamic world must consolidate to resist and stop this evil, lest the devastation continue to expand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWitnessing the strong support from the United States for Israel\u2019s crimes, we call upon Muslim countries, in particular, to reconsider the presence of American embassies in their territories,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Prof. Sudarnoto, concrete political and diplomatic measures are needed to exert broad international pressure on the United States so it ceases its support for Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Sudarnoto concluded by calling upon national leaders, scholars, community figures, and all elements of society to unite and rise together in a comprehensive movement to pressure and weaken Israel and bring about the liberation of Palestine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
